What is voice therapy?
Voice therapy is like strength and fitness training for your voice box, teaching your brain and muscles to speak at a normal, healthy volume. It also involves help with vocal hygiene and breath support to prevent or correct injury.

Who is it for?
It's for anyone whose voice is not meeting their daily communication needs. Voice and speech therapy can be caused by injury, illness including neurological conditions or poor vocal hygiene habits e.g. straining the voice.

What problems can voice and speech therapy help with?
Therapy can help a range of issues including reduced vocal loudness (hypophonia), slurred speech and a monotone or flat voice among others.

How does online voice therapy work?

Online therapy allows you the convenience of having sessions from the comfort of your own home, especially if you have mobility issues. You do not need any equipment other than your computer with a built-in microphone, a webcam and a quiet room. I will email you an invite for each appointment, which you will click on to gain access to our session.

Is online therapy as effective as in-person therapy?

Yes, and there is evidence to support this. For example, a study was conducted on patient satisfaction with virtual vs in-person voice therapy. Feedback from 224 patients who received therapy virtually (online) and 309 patients who received in-person therapy was analysed. Results showed virtual delivery of voice therapy was associated with comparable satisfaction scores to in-person delivery. Another study investigated the validity and reliability of online delivery of Lee Silverman Voice Treatment (LSVT®) for the speech and voice disorder associated with Parkinson's disease. They found significant improvements on the majority of measures they were assessing e.g. vocal loudness, pitch range, speech clarity.

What's your approach to therapy?

It's simple:

  • We work together as a team. You are not just a passive recipient, but an active participant in your therapy.

  • My work is evidence-based but tailored to you. It's your voice and your life.

  • Therapy is practical. We'll focus on skills that matter in everyday life, like ordering a coffee, asking for help, or having a chat with a friend.

  • It's all about progress, not absolute perfection. Every step forward, however small, is a victory. And I'll be here to cheer you on every step of the way.
